An Excellent Health Resource

I don’t have type-2 diabetes or even pre-type 2 diabetes. But I did have many of the diseases associated with it: High Cholesterol, Leaky Gut, and Fatty Liver disease that were steadily getting worse.  I had done a pretty good job of eliminating saturated fats from my diet, but I wasn’t seeing the improvements in my numbers. This book showed me how what I’d been eating (even the foods I thought healthy) were slowly making me sick, and how to get my habits and my health back on track. Christen Kaplan and Elizabeth Inman dispel the myths, present the facts, and provide no-nonsense nutritional guidelines that I believe saved my life all through eating a nutrient-dense, whole food diet. I highly recommend this book (and the 1st book in the Take Back Your Health Series as well) to anyone seeking to put themselves back on track to a healthy life. I’ve been buying this book for my friends.

Outstanding Read! This is Not Your Typical "Run of the Mill" Self-Help Book

If the struggle with your weight, diet, and health has been an up and down, lifelong battle for you, like it has been with me, this is the book for you! In today's celebration of disinformation that our society pushes on each of us in the mainstream media, in the form of "sexy" images and what we are supposed to look like, wear, think, and do, by Movies, T.V., Internet, and Social Media, finding the truth about oneself and how to break free from the chains of one's past and societal influences becomes more difficult each and every day. This book by Ms. Kaplan gets to the root of the problem--ourselves--what we believe and what makes us choose the things we choose in life. All in a relatable anecdotal discussion that makes us think about why we do/did the things we do/did. The personal struggles she went through are the exact same ones we all experience in life, which is why the reader can relate so well. Statistical data about the pharmaceutical companies influence in our life aside, this book will have you thinking about yourself and the relationship(s) you are in, the one with your ex, your life habits, and your responsibility in it all without shaming yourself for the choices you made and what got you to where you are today. The great message from Ms. Kaplan is now that we understand what has been affecting us in our unhealthy choice-making and we can take responsibility for it, we can take back the control of our lives and make our decisions from within, for ourselves, not burdened by outside factors that brought us to the place where we are today.

Just what I needed!!!

I found this book as courageous as it was honest as it was insightful. The author pulled me in with very personal stories. Stories TBH that are very similar to my own. And for most of us, I would imagine. This book did not feel like a call to simply improve my eating habits but to educate myself and my family about what we are putting into our bodies every day and why. She (Christen Kaplan) says we won't get there (our ideal health) until we dig deeper and admit our mental health impacts our physical health and vise versa. A light bulb came on for me. No wonder diets never seem to do the trick for me. I've never addressed or asked myself why I eat what I eat. This is an incredible easy read that forces the reader to look at the incredibly difficult situations we have all faced in our lives. Getting right with ourselves includes the mental and physical selves. Thank you Christen for sharing yours and your families stories. I am turning my heart around!!
